Oct 27, 2008 - This is the most beautiful work in choral literature. I have performed it twice and I notice new nuances everytime I hear it.

Nov 3, 2008 - My parish choir and orchestra performed this Mass today - it took my breath away! Thank you for posting the purchase suggestions, it's on the way to my door! :-)

Feb 1, 2009 - Ahh Durufle - such an overlooked and underrated composer! Yet his mastery of the organ and tone coloring is sublime. This Requiem is for me the most moving of all.

Apr 20, 2009 - I prefer women voices than these children. I sang this Requiem at Vaison-la-Romaine in 1980 during the "Choralies" A curiosity are the "exotic" instruments...

May 24, 2009 - I think in the orchestra this was my favorite part to play, especially around 2:15, because of how you could play it. Other parts we were just scrambling to keep up.

Jun 27, 2009 - I can't agree more. In fact, Maurice is my fav composer, and, although criminal to have to make a choice, raise his requiem above all others. ALL of Durufle's compositions are sublime.

Jul 31, 2009 - Music of breathtaking spirit and unspeakable beauty of tonality, spoken in the musical language of angels. This Requiem touches the soul in the deepest waves of resonant peace. Like Faure, one hears this music long after it is played, in notes of everlasting dialogue between heart and mind.

Aug 24, 2009 - Durufle was truely a man touched by God when he composed this requiem. ive always been amazed how he could take the Gregorian plainchant virtually unchanged and weave the glorious harmonies into it. its a shame he didnt compose more but he was such a perfectionist with what he did compose. would be nice if the Mass (opus 11) got more recognition.

Aug 31, 2009 - I prefer children's voices instead. De gustibus non disputandum :)

Sep 2, 2009 - He always includes the vocal parts in the organ score. Makes it easier to sing.

Sep 8, 2009 - I have had the privilidge of performing both the Faure & Durufle Requiems several times but I love the Durufle far more. For those looking for an excellent recording, check out the London 2-CD which has both Durulfe & Faure plus several additional pieces by Durufle & Poulenc. St. John's College Choir w/ Cleobury organ & Academy of St. Martin-in-the -Fields conducted by George Guest. I believe the catalog # is 436 486-2 Hope you enjoy it. The music is absolutely gorgeous!

Sep 28, 2009 - Of all the requiems- this one speaks to the soul and gives a picture of heaven. I feel in my heart, Durfle had seen it and got it right. All of the sections- but this one Agnus Dei and then In Paradisum, It gives me hope each time- and renewed energy to keep moving upward.

Jan 26, 2010 - Michael Jackson begins his song "Little Susie" with a section of this requiem, but I can't seem to find it here on YouTube. If anyone knows I'd appreciate info. Thanks.. peace & L.O.V.E.
ABCHealTheWorld Says:
Jan 26, 2010 - btw, this part of the requiem is simply beautiful. Such beautiful music must be so close to the heart of God, because it sounds completely inspired. Sounds likes the voices of angels. L.O.V.E.

Feb 3, 2010 - when i was 17 i got to song Maurice durufles' requiem as well as carl orffs' carmina burana in chorus niagara. i will never again experience anything more majestic. sanctus and requiem aree my favourite pieces in this move ment. blanziflor and o fortuna have to be the most powerful and uplifting pieces from carmina burana. all this music is so beautiful and to be able to experience it first hand is absolutely unreal. i feel so blessed to have had that experience. Chorus Niagara.. thank you!

Sep 12, 2008 - I own a CD recording of this requiem, with Michel Plasson conducting the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse (Toulouse Capitole Orchestra). I don't know about Robert Shaw's recording, but I'm pretty sure both CD's are equally spectacular.
