Jul 2, 2010 - @redcommander27 More examples. As a medieval crusader or islamic jihad warrior whoudnt you think that is your holy duty to conquer enemy lands and kill as many infidels you can to achieve this?As a western settler in America wouldnt you want to bring civilisation to all those native ''savages'' who would still resist you by any means?Am i wrong so far?Always in history the attacker has reasons for aggresion.Right or wrong depends on which side you are or personal opinion.

Lar82Pa Says:

Jul 2, 2010 - @redcommander27 I see you strongly support the defender in some kind of logic'They started it first so we have to fight '.Well its not always like this .Harlold was only a duke when he gave oath to William the Conquerer but later he broke it and he crowned himself king of England showing great disreaspect to William. So in 1066 William and the Normans invaded England. The result was Harold dead and the Saxonic England conquered. Can you tell my my friend who was in this case right and who wrong?

Jul 2, 2010 - I was 14 years old when i joigned the army (Ecole Royale des Cadets, Laeken, BELGIUM). I'm now a psychiatrist and i treasure those hard times spent there. I have the greatest respect for the people who give their life for us... Always...

redcommander27 Says:

Jul 2, 2010 - @Lar82Pa My comments were primarily referring to modern times where all sovereign nations are recognized to have the rights of self determination and independence. If one nation militarily violates another's sovereignty than it has the right to defend itself. What if someone broke into your house with the intention of raping and killing your mother? Would it be wrong of you to defend yourself because the attacker has his own reasons for doing so?

redcommander27 Says:

Jul 2, 2010 - @Lar82Pa The attacker may have a reason for agression, but I'm saying that I agree with international law, classical liberalism, and reason that regardless of your reason, aggression is always unjustifiable. Both the Jihadists and the settlers were were wrong. Why is it wrong to defend yourself just because your attacker thinks they are right?

Lar82Pa Says:

Jul 3, 2010 - @redcommander27 Well, i was talking about war from prehistoric times up to modern era.War in not a modern times invention.War is still war even if people use rocks or nuclear weapons.About you example its about any individual while we talk about nation.I dont belive is the same.I could also say that if someone started annoying your girlfriend and you punch him first you are the attacker, so the other guy has every right to defend himself against you or beat you even more?In this case you are

Lar82Pa Says:

Jul 3, 2010 - @redcommander27 the attacker but you honestly belive that you are wrong?Had you any choise but to be violent? You had, but you acted thisway.Anyway, something like this happens with nations. As we fight with our neighbours nation fight eachother. Both sides have reasons.Sadly war its in human nature and I never found in history a situation that diplomacy or common sence would faill to give a solution. As i mentioned before human stupidity and greed cause wars.

Lar82Pa Says:

Jul 3, 2010 - @redcommander27 Even in a one nation world or in a world without any nation ,there will always be people willing to force others to kill or die for them This is war.A situation that you are forced to kill or be killed either you attack or defend. This is what i mean that war is unjustifiable. In the second milenium AD this shouldnt be still happening to our ''evolved'' and ''progressive'' world.Since tribal wars of the past ,sadly we remained unchanged.

redcommander27 Says:

Jul 3, 2010 - @Lar82Pa Would you agree that every person and nation has the right of self defence, and that violence in self defense is a necessary evil?

Lar82Pa Says:

Jul 4, 2010 - @redcommander27 I agree. That was the logest debate i had in u tube so far and its intresting but also a bit tiring. Can we end it here?Always nice to meet smart and educated people and have conversations like this. :D

redcommander27 Says:

Jul 5, 2010 - @Lar82Pa Sure no problem. Thank you, glad to debate with someone intelligent as well. In conclusion, I believe all violence including war is justifiable only as a defense against other violence. As for the girlfriend scenario, hitting him would not be justified because he did not hit first. I hope you aren't agreeing simply to end the argument because I am open to agreeing to disagree. Glad to discourse with someone who has decency and intelligence.

Lar82Pa Says:

Jul 5, 2010 - @redcommander27 No really ,i am convinced. It was about understanding your views and see your pespective.Justifiable war can exit but not violence and agression.I had to do some thinking before realising your meanings.Nice tanking to you. :)

Jul 17, 2010 - The recording heard here is not the same one, but my favorite version of this song is from the ?1984? recording session that Leonard Slatkin did with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra where they recorded Barber's Overture to "The School For Scandal", "Adagio For Strings", "3 Essays For Orchestra", and "Medea's Dance Of Vengeance". The CD that shows the picture of Barber sitting at the desk in the blue shirt with pages of music manuscript underneath his hands.
